Woodland Middle School’s New Dress Code & House Team Expectations

Dear Woodland Families,

We are excited to share an important update regarding our schoolwide efforts to strengthen school culture, promote unity, and reinforce positive behavior among all students. Beginning this school year, Woodland Middle School will fully implement House Teams and a revamped PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) system to recognize students for making positive choices and contributing to a safe, respectful, and responsible learning environment.

As part of this initiative, each grade level will represent a House Team and will be expected to wear designated colors as part of the daily dress code. These House Teams, inspired by the Ron Clark Academy model, will allow students to earn points through positive actions, attendance, academic effort, and good citizenship. Points will lead to individual and team incentives, recognition, and schoolwide celebrations throughout the year.

House Team Colors by Grade Level:
  • 6th grade- yellow/gold, black shirts

  • 7th grade- gray or white shirts

  • 8th grade- royal, navy, or powder blue shirts

Other  Dress Code Requirements:
  • Bottoms must be pants! Pants may include blue or black denim with no rips tears or frays, khaki, or navy pants.

  • Dresses are permitted in school designated grade level colors that are appropriately fitting.

Prohibited Attire

To maintain a safe, distraction-free, and respectful learning environment, the following items are not permitted at Woodland Middle School:

  • Leggings or jeggings worn as pants

  • Tights worn as pants

  • Skirts, shorts, or dresses above fingertip length

  • Ripped jeans

  • Ski masks

  • Hats or bonnets

  • Flip flops, slides, or any shoes without a back

  • Clothing with offensive language, symbols, or images

  • Crocs must be worn in “sports mode” (heel strap on and secured)

Students are expected to wear their House Team colors daily, unless a schoolwide spirit day is announced. Shirts should be school-appropriate and follow the existing guidelines regarding fit, logos, and graphics (no offensive language, images, or symbols).

Why a Dress Code by House Team?
  • Promotes school pride and team unity

  • Reinforces positive behavior and participation

  • Allows all students to engage in a consistent schoolwide culture

  • Encourages daily accountability and investment in their learning community

Consequences for Not Following the Dress Code:

To maintain consistency and reinforce expectations, the following steps will be taken for students not in compliance with the dress code:

  1. 1st Offense – Verbal reminder and written notice sent home

  1. 2nd Offense – Parent phone call from teacher or administrator

  1. 3rd Offense – Lunch detention and parent conference

  1. 4th Offense – Behavior referral and exclusion from upcoming PBIS celebration

  1. Continued Non-Compliance – Administrative intervention and possible disciplinary consequences per the FCS Student Code of Conduct
