Message from the Dr. Brown

I am a native of Foreman, Arkansas, a rural community in the southwest part of the state. I am a product of a single-family home where I was raised primarily by my mother. As a child, some of my fondest memories were from playing school in the backyard with my neighboring friends. I never imagined that the playful activities of my childhood would lead to a career in education.

I graduated from the University Central Arkansas, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. I later graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a Master of Arts degree in School Administration. I earned a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership with a minor in Human Resources Development from Nova Southeastern University.

I have 22 years of experience as an educator. I began my career as a teacher in Pulaski County Special School District in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Early in my career, I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where I spent 17 years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).

In 1997, I continued my educational career path as a Special Education teacher at Northwest School of the Arts where I taught middle and high school students. During my tenure as a teacher, I also started my leadership journey. As a school-wide initiative to improve student achievement, I served as the Saturday school administrator at the school in which I taught.

In August 2005, I was promoted to assistant principal in a Title-I elementary school within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. For 10 years, I served in diverse elementary schools throughout the CMS district in the role of assistant principal. Recently, I was selected for an opportunity within Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia in 2015 where I served as an assistant principal at Shiloh High School leading the Special Education Department. Through the commitment of strategic leadership and a shared vision among stakeholders, one of my biggest accomplishments was leading the improvement of our graduation rate among students with disabilities from 41% to 56.1% in 2018.

I am an instructional leader who is committed to a high level of teaching and learning for all students and staff. My desire is to support those who teach to ensure a quality education and positively influence the lives of students. In doing so, my goal is to foster a safe and warm learning environment that will birth countless opportunities for students and their families to be equipped with the knowledge they need to be successful.

I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve and impact the lives of our students.
